The Founding of Bonsai Culture in Orange County

The joy of learning the art of dwarfing and reshaping gifts of nature into a living art object, in congenial association with fellow students, led to the organization of the Orange County Bonsai Society. this group of bonsai enthusiasts are dedicated to advancing the skills and general interest in bonsai.

Operating as a purely volunteer informal organization, the society has stood in the vanguard of the Bonsai movement in Orange County since 1964.

Purpose

The specific and primary purpose of the society shall be:

To foster the art form of bonsai, the craft of growing bonsai through skillful training and culture.

To confirm the original conviction that the fine art of Bonsai shall remain an enjoyable, self-rewarding cultural experience – a hobby to be shared with others.

To establish a non-commercial, non-profit, and non-competitive position.

Policy

Bonsai Instruction

The society adopts and shall pursue an open door democratic policy that fosters a non discrimination posture to race, sex, ethnic, and religious matters.

It shall conduct its affairs in strict observance of the bylaws of the society and the laws and regulation of government.

It shall evoke a spirit of fraternity, cooperation, and fellowship within its own ranks and the bonsai community at large.

The society shall assume leadership in advancing interest in bonsai by initiating, by sponsoring projects, and in collaboration with others on exhibitions, demonstrations, lectures, conventions, workshops, and field trips.

The club members teach the basics, skills, and techniques of this living art form. Class instruction is held monthly for three hour periods and includes workshops, demonstrations and exhibits.

Instruction in structure and style for Bonsai is available for the benefit of beginners through the most advanced students.
